Einstein on the Beach

I had no idea what it was about. After all, I’ve only recently explored this “theatre thing.”

All I knew was that “Einstein on the Beach” was a seminal work and that its 2012 previews were in my hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan. So, I took a chance on the wait list and saw the show.

It was funny: one of my mentors who brought me into this theatre world, Michelle Mountain, happened to be sitting directly behind me in the 1400-seat theatre. She shared an article about Robert Wilson with me only weeks earlier, assuming that I was going to see the show but I had never heard of it before. There was a moment during the transition between Train 1 and Trial 1 when I thought about her as she directed the transition pieces for our own night of experimental theatre as apprentices. I just felt her presence and, then, I had the overwhelming urge to pee. If you know Michelle, you know how appropriate this was. I looked behind me to find an escape, only to see Michelle. Our faces widened in delight as we recognized each other.

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others of the Day: Hint: It’s the one with the cover story about how it’s completely okay, if not beneficial, to feel unease about future uncertainties, as opposed to, say, riot in the streets until sh*t gets done.
Sadly, this is a fairly common occurrence.
